EBS Childcare Happenings…

Our sixth annual Christmas program will take place on Tuesday, December 16th at 7:00 pm in the Sanctuary of the church. Everyone is welcome! Refreshments will follow in the Fellowship Hall. On Sunday, December 21st, the Childcare & Preschool families will be singing the songs of our Christmas program at the live nativity at the Gazebo in Front Royal. We are scheduled to present our “Silent Night” program from 3:30PM - 3:45PM. Be sure to stop by for a few moments in support of our families, as well as to take the opportunity to meditate on the true meaning of the holidays.

In addition to the above special events, December always finds the children and staff as busy as any one of Santa’s elves! Although we give much attention to our traditions that involve Advent, Jesus’ birthday, and holiday celebrations, the children also continue the educational value given to each day. In December we will look at the colors purple, pin, and green, review the numbers 1-9, the letters J, W, G and the star shape. We will discuss how and why it is better to give than to receive, and how doing things together to benefit others make you feel good. The oldest children will investigate the ideas of selfishness and generosity. We will concentrate on following directions by one, two and three steps. For math we will learn how to fit things into other things by size and estimating what it takes to fill things up. In science we will be putting ingredients together, mixing them and seeing how a change in temperature in cooking will change the ingredients. We will learn the first parts of a skip. Speaking in complete sentences using correct grammar and pronunciation will be emphasized. We will play with sounds and try to make silly words up to rhyme a sound. We will explore Little Jack Horner; Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star; and Jack Be Nimble. In addition, as we continue to follow the Rock Solid Program, we learn about An Angel Visits Mary, An Angel Visits Joseph, Jesus is Born and The Shepherds Hear Good News.
